You’ve Got This! The Power of Strength

By Leslie Woods

Have you ever had moments where you didn’t feel like you had enough strength to move forward? I know I have been there. Sometimes it is a compilation of tough life events that leaves us feeling at a loss. Other times, it is excess baggage and trauma that has that annoying voice telling you that you can’t or you are not good enough. Lack-consciousness also plays a part in not feeling up to par. How do we move past this?

You’ve Got This! The Power of Strength
You’ve Got This! The Power of Strength

Strength is one of the Twelve Powers we hold as center points for our Christ-center to awaken these qualities within us. We may have a feeling that we lack strength, but in reality, it is our awareness of that power that is lacking. With God as our Source, we have unlimited strength. Strength here is not brute strength but rather the power to endure, persevere, and overcome.  Perhaps maybe, the power of God that has a little stubborn streak that leads you to be steady in faith as opposed to our human stubborn streak that can leave us stuck.

When times have been hard for me, I reflect on “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) I look back at history and the many ways humans have overcome great obstacles. Oppressed populations have persevered for generations and it is the power of strength, the momentum of hope, and the foundation of faith that brings them forth.  Strength allows us to press on for future generations. The dedication and passion to take action  for the betterment of mankind, even though we may not see it in our lifetime, sings of strength. Moses did not live to see the freedom of his people, yet he led. Martin Luther King did not live to see many of the advances we have made in civil rights.  Yet, his Strength, and the strength of his legacy carried forward. From John Lewis, we learned what “good trouble” is. There is strength in immigrants fleeing thousands of miles to seek a better, safer place. Mary and Joseph were our example there, many years ago.

With many steps forward, we have made changes for our highest good. And, there are many steps we still can take. What is God stirring in you to press forward with? Is it a dream? Is it a movement? Is it a way of service? Is it just making it through the day?  Settle into the knowing that we are unique expressions of God - this amazing energy source, the essence of our being, that vitality of all that we are. Let that knowing fuel you, holding steadfast to the assurance that all that we need comes to us with ease and grace. Spend some time in sweet communion with God for guidance and refueling. And, remember to lean on your support team - family, friends, family (friends that are more like family), your spiritual community. Strength doesn’t have to be a solo job.

Shine on y’all!
