Meet our President,
Sabrina Harris

I heard that Unity of Austin was an accepting church community. I was looking for a place where the color of my skin would not matter, and I would be accepted as a member of the LGBTQ plus community. I became a member because I was moved by feeling connected to the congregation and staff, and I began to feel a real connection with God. I joined in the 1990’s. I was reinstated in 2018.  The benefits have been to be involved in this supportive community, to learn and grow in Spiritual understanding, and the strengthening of my faith and connectedness with God.

I have morning prayer and meditation daily. I pray through out the day. My relationship with God is everything. My spiritual work with God is to abandon myself to God. I’m practicing letting go and trusting in God while in prayer of what my part is. I’m working to address past hurts and resolve anger issues. I’m practicing having a pause button and staying calm no matter the circumstances. I’m practicing being loving and self-less without being co-dependent or accepting abuse/mistreatment.

I am a native Texan born in Houston, and currently reside in Austin. I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University. After a seventeen-year career in the semiconductor Industry I transitioned to working in the mental health field since 2003. I have volunteered or had working relationships with various not for profit organizations such as YWCA of Greater Austin, Waterloo Counseling Center, The Austin Writer’s League, AIDS Services of Austin and others.
