...While Winter is a time to rest, to sleep, to mesh with warm blankets and hot baths, the other months carry different transitions.
For years, the spring has been my go-to month. Spring is about dreams
and fields of flowers showing their new faces. About excitement. About
crisp mornings and warm, not toasty afternoons. The snow melts off the
mountains, and the creeks blast cold, clear water. Spring shows hope and potential. It is the month of my birthday, I love March.
Summer is lazy. It's not about deep sleep but dozy, vivid naps. It's hot by late morning and afternoon sighs. It is sweaty summer nights and sandals. The possibilities are not so blaring - you know that if it is to be done, it must be done now. There isn’t as much room for dreaming.
Summer carries pressure. Discipline. Doing things that don’t want to be
done.
But Fall-Fall is about letting go, about throwing in the towel, about just
being. I see myself rising early, wearing a warm flannel shirt and comfortable hiking boots. Savoring a cup of steaming coffee in the
morning, a glass of red in the evening. It’s the coming of the end, but there is still so much life in it. It's accepting the closure, the knowing that this will shift, and I accept it.
Fall makes me happy. It says “well done” or “rest now” or isn’t IT beautiful?
Relax now, little girl. It's the third act. Let go. As mom said on her
deathbed. “Enjoy your life”
That IS fall.
