"HUMILITY' by Beverly Floro, Spirit Writer
When I think of humility, I remember a poem I wrote many years ago. So long ago, it was typed on a regular typewriter before the advent of word processors or computers. I titled it
“Humility”.

Coming down is easier.
Above the sweating toilers fast you fly
With head and eyes held high.
And smiling for the ones who strain and stumble.
And is that smile a sneer, a jeer?
Remember now not far
There will be another hill for you to climb
And there will be others coming down.
I am open to recognizing the universality of difficulty and struggle. I am open to seeing my shadow, an acquaintance if not a friend. Humility is comfortable like a familiar blanket. It means I don’t have to be perfect, have all the answers, or earn my worth in good behavior. I expect obstacles, mistakes, and limitations. The imperfection of my life gives me opportunities for progress. I can learn from others. I no longer need to feel offended when people give me advice on how to fix my short comings. Having humility frees my energy to be my true self.
